Orchid Growing is FUN!
Bribie Island Orchid Society welcomes you to the wonderful world of orchid growing. We hope that you enjoy our sections on growing orchids, orchid information, our orchid shows and the many great orchid photographs that we have for you to view. Bribie Island Orchid Society takes pride in the manner which it caters for the new grower who is just starting out to the experienced grower.
At both the New Growers and the Monthly Cultural Meetings, folk happily exchange information on how to get the best results in our region as well as assisting with ‘hands on’ sessions. All growers are encouraged to bring plants for showing and to compete in friendly rivalry with those of a similar standard and level of competence.

News
Like many other societies and clubs around Australia, 2020 started out with great anticipation of meetings, demonstrations and Shows to come, but due to the outbreak of COVID-19 our hopes and dreams came to a sudden halt in March. Before the restrictions came in to place, we were able to hold the January and February General Meetings, the January and February Birthday lunches and the New Growers Meetings for February and March, all of which were well attended.
Sadly our impending 2020 Easter Orchid and Foliage Show had to be cancelled. However, in lieu, members were able to contribute to our Easter Photo Show which was run over April and May with Orchids and Foliage photos being included in our monthly bulletins. Mother Nature really seems to have been waving her magic wand with growers reporting lots of lovely blooms following much needed rain early in the year. Perhaps our self-isolating has also contributed with people spending more time at home, and in the garden, than usual.
During the last few months the Bribie Orchid Society Committee has been busy behind the scenes applying for some grants available for Not-for-profit entities and the results of their efforts will be evident when we are able to return to The Orchid House in hopefully, the not too distant future, with some new acquisitions and improvements to the building.
